Wycombe Wanders made an impressive start to the new football season with a emphatic 3-0 win over York City at Adams Park on Saturday 7th August 2015.

Wycombe scored their first goal in the seventh minute after a defensive error by York City allowed Anthony Stewart to score for the Chairboys.

In the twenty eighth minute Aaron Holloway fired a low level shot into the York net to give Wycombe their second goal.

Just thirty minutes later, in the fifty eighth minute, York City’s defender Stephane Zubar’s gave the Blues their third goal when he attempted a back-pass but misjudged and lobbed the ball over the York keeper Scott Flinders to score an own goal.

Wycombe were be far the more dominant team with 52% ball possession compared to 48% for York City. Of Wycombe’s seven shots on goal three were on target, however none of York City’s six shots were on target.

In total the game saw twenty seven fouls, fourteen committed by Wycombe players and thirteen by York players.

After the first game of the season Wycombe find themselves in third place in League Two and in familiar territory in one of the automatic promotion places where they were for most of last season. If they carry on like this maybe they will get the promotion they were so cruelly denied last year?

The attendance at Adams Park was 3,688 (376 from York City).
