FA Cup 3rd Round : Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Aston Villa

Adams Park was packed to near capacity on Saturday 9th January 2016 when Wycombe Wanderers met Aston Villa in the third round of the 2016 FA Cup.

Aston Villa took charge of the match in the twenty second minute when a fight footed shot from Micah Richards found the bottom left corner of the Wycombe goal.

Despite going a goal down Wycombe did not give up, Aaron Pierre came close to scoring in the forty second minute but his close range header was too high.

At half time Villa were still leading by a solitary goal.

In the forty eighth minute Ashley Westwood conceded a foul, for which he was shown the yellow card, giving Wycombe a chance to score from the penalty spot.

After a few minutes of delay, Joe Jacobson stepped forward in the fiftieth minute of the game to take the penalty, his left footed shot found the top left corner of the Villa goal to draw the scores level and put Wycombe back in the match.

The scores remained one goal apiece earning Wycombe a rematch at Villa Park.

Aston Villa were by far the more dominant team with 65% possession, however of their eighteen shots on the Wycombe goal only four were on target, Wycombe made nine shots on the Villa goal of which just two were on target.

The match saw nineteen fouls, four by Villa and fifteen by Wycombe players.

Wycombe can be proud of their performance today holding a Premiership team to a draw and earning a second tie as well as showing why they are currently one of the best teams in League Two.

Tickets for the match had sold out by Tuesday 5th January 2016 showing that in the town there are still many who support the Wanderers.

The attendance at Adams Park was 9,298 (2,690 from Aston Villa).
