George Street and Baker Street car parks to close permanently on Mon 25 Sep 2017

| August 26, 2017

Two car parks in High Wycombe town centre are to close permanently on Monday 25th September 2017.

The George Street and Baker Street car parks are to close to make way for redevelopment of the site which includes an Aldi food store and a new local arts and crafts centre.

Despite the George Street car park closing the short stay parking spaces next to the Riverside Surgery will remain. The maximum two hour stay in these spaces should give patients enough time for a visit to the medical centre and help keep spaces available during the day.

After Monday 28th August 2017 there will be some minor enabling works taking place in both affected car parks which may disrupt parking. As a result Wycombe District Council will not charge for parking in the George Street or Baker Street car parks after Monday 28th August 2017.

Once the car parks have closed on Monday 25th September 2017 the nearest long stay car parking will be at the Dovecot car park (entrance in Premier Way, High Wycombe).

The Dovecot car park is managed by Euro Car Parks, however Wycombe District Council have negotiated new long stay tariffs for the upper floors. The new tariffs will be introduced in the Dovecot car park when the George Street and Baker Street car parks close. These tariffs will include £3.00 for up to ten hours parking and £4.00 for up to 12 hours parking.

The redevelopment of the site is part of the council’s ‘investing in our district‘ regeneration work in High Wycombe town centre, the work is expected to be complete in spring 2018.

Councillor Steve Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Wycombe District Council, said: ‘This project is part of our programme of investing in our district.

It’s great that a big name retailer is coming into the town and this, along with creating an exciting new base for local artists and craftspeople, will help to regenerate this part of town.

This means changes for people living and working in and around the Baker Street area, but I think the end result will be worth it.
