Cllr Peart takes the new Wycombe Lotto Shopmobility scooter for a spin.

High Wycombe Shopmobility has received a gleaming new mobility scooter thanks to funds raised by Wycombe Lotto.

Costing £1,275, the new scooter was paid for entirely by funds raised from High Wycombe Shopmobility supporters who have been buying their Wycombe Lotto tickets through the charity’s website or choosing Shopmobility from the range of good causes on the Wycombe Lotto website.

So far, High Wycombe Shopmobility has raised a total of £1,885 by partnering with Wycombe Lotto. By selling Wycombe Lotto tickets to its supporters, High Wycombe Shopmobility has successfully raised a total of £1,405 directly and the charity also received a £480 extra payment from Wycombe Lotto’s first birthday celebrations this summer.

Manager of Wycombe Shopmobility, Claire McMackin is delighted about the extra cash injection. She said: ‘We work hard to raise money to help people get around the town using our scooters, power chairs and wheelchairs.

Now we’ve been able to replace one of our scooters with a brand new model all because we’ve sold some Wycombe Lotto tickets.

It goes to show that the community lottery is not only popular amongst our supporters, but really effective at helping local organisations like ours raise extra money.

The new scooter will join Shopmobility’s fleet of 23 mobility scooters, 4 power chairs and 19 manual wheelchairs. The new Wycombe Lotto mobility scooter replaces an older scooter that was becoming uneconomical to repair. This style of scooter is very popular because of its size and manoeuvrability. Shopmobility now has five of this type of scooter in the fleet.

Already in 2018 the Shopmobility scooters, power chairs and wheelchairs have been out on 5,596 trips. The service is proving as popular as ever. In 2018 alone, 286 new members have signed up to use the service which enables people to get around the town centre. Since January2018 customers using the Shopmobility service have spent £496,303 in the town whilst using this popular service.

Cllr Graham Peart, Cabinet Member for Community Services at Wycombe District Council said: ‘This is really great news for Shopmobility and the people who use this poplar service. I’m delighted to see the power of Wycombe Lotto working to help them raise funds to support them in their great work.

Wycombe Lotto is a community lottery run by Wycombe District Council. It has a weekly jackpot prize of £25,000 and a range of smaller prizes. Anyone over 18 can play by buying a ticket online. A total of 60p from every £1 ticket goes directly to help local good causes in Wycombe District. High Wycombe Shopmobility is one of over 60 local charities to join the lottery and raise extra funds to support its important work.
