Buckinghamshire County Council appoint a new Chairman

At the annual council meeting on Thursday 26th May 2016 Val Letheren was appointed as the new Chairman of Buckinghamshire County Council.

Val received the chain of office from retiring Chairman Bill Chapple OBE. The new Vice Chairman is Patricia Birchley.

Val, who represents Terriers and Amersham Hill in High Wycombe, has been a County Councillor since 2001.

During her year in office Val would like to meet and show gratitude to people who work on the front line of Buckinghamshire’s communities as well as giving her personal thanks to the County Council’s 1,200 volunteers.

Val said : ‘People like our social workers and those who run our emergency services just get on with the job with no fuss and in such a professional way. They deserve our heartfelt gratitude, and I’d like to show this on behalf of the County.

Val who has beel a district councillor for fourteen years has also been Mayor of High Wycombe and Chairman of Wycombe District Council Chairman.

While serving on Buckinghamshire County Council Val spent six years as Transport Cabinet Member as well as holding the post of Cabinet Member for Children’s Services. More recently she chaired the Council’s Select Committee on Children’s Social Care and Learning.
