UPDATED : Two buildings destroyed during a fire at Cressex Business Park, High Wycombe

A fire involving two industrial buildings occurred in High Wycombe during the afternoon of Thursday 3rd June 2021.

At 1.40pm firefighters were called to the incident at the Wellington Building in Lincoln Road, Cressex Business Park, High Wycombe. The building that caught fire is a single-storey building used as a warehouse and offices.

More than 100 calls reporting the incident were reported through the 999 emergency number.

Fifteen fire appliances with crews attended from various fire stations in Buckinghamshire, Royal Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Nine officers also attended. Around seventy personnel from the fire service were at the scene. The fire crews came from High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, Amersham, Aylesbury, Broughton, Slough, Maidenhead, Whitley Wood, Wokingham Road, Ascot, Henley, Watlington, Rewley Road and Slade Park fire stations.

Two buildings were involved they were :

  • A two-storey industrial building used to store plastic for domestic use. The roof collapsed and the building was destroyed by fire.
  • A garage storing eight cars. The garage collapsed and the cars were destroyed.

The fire also destroyed the fencing of nearby homes.

Five main jets, four sets of breathing apparatus, two turntable ladders and a water tanker were used by the firefighters at the scene during the operation to extinguish the fire.

The fire service was asking residents in the vicinity to keep their doors and windows closed.

No injuries were reported as a result of the file.

The plume of smoke from the fire drifted across Desborough Avenue towards High Wycombe town centre, the smoke could be seen as far away as Downley and across the Castlefield area of High Wycombe.

It took several hours to extinguish the fire with the smoke subsiding shortly after 4.00pm.

Group Commander Paul Scanes, from the Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: ‘The fire and rescue service was called at 13.40 to a commercial property fire. On arrival, crews were confronted by a well-developed fire which was spreading to surrounding buildings.

Crews from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service have been working in hot and arduous conditions in a multi-service approach with Oxfordshire and Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Services to bring the fire under control.

Our advice is to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed.

Firefighters will be at the scene for a considerable amount of time. Thankfully no-one has been injured.
