Wycombe District Council has announced that over the next few months checks will be carried out to ensure that residents who receive a council tax reduction are still entitled to it.
Single occupancy residents paying council tax in the Wycombe district who receive a 25% reduction on their bill will be reviewed to make sure the reductions given are correct. The checks form part of the council’s measures to prevent and detect fraud and protect the public purse.
The review will be carried out by Capita Local Government Services working with the credit reference agency Equifax using up-to-the-minute, data-matching technology, to identify if people are claiming discounts that they are not entitled to.
The council is keen to ensure that single person discount is claimed by those who are genuinely entitled as taxpayers who claim the discount improperly place an unnecessary burden on other residents.
Anyone currently receiving a discount which they feel may not be correct are urged to contact Wycombe District Council immediately.
