Chiltern Railways mobile ‘app’ celebrates 200,000 downloads

Chiltern Railways has announced that its mobile ticketing ‘app’, developed with partners Atos Origin and Masabi,  for smart phones has been download more than 200,000 times.

The mobile ticketing app enables customers to buy tickets and scan the barcode at station barriers thus eliminating the need to queue at a ticket office or print a ticket. Thanks to the app customers can buy tickets using their mobile phone and travel immediately without having to print a physical ticket.

Chiltern Railways were the UK’s first train company to bring ticket-less retailing to rail passengers and the first to roll out an app to their entire commuter network.

Chiltern Railways were also the first make it possible to access free real time train information for any UK journey. Unlike other commercial booking services the app does not include a booking fee and is free to download. It also remembers favourite journeys and debit card details, so that travel routes can be made with a few touches of the screen.

To obtain the app, you just have to text ‘Chiltern’ or 88600 or search the online app store for your phone.
