On Friday 13th June 2014 at 11.20am Thames Valley Police were alerted to a fatal collision on the Southbound carriageway of the M40 just before Junction 9 at Bicester, Oxfordshire.
The collision was between a Peugeot 406 estate car and a red coloured articulated lorry.
The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her late twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene. In the back of the Peugeot was a young baby, believed to be only a few weeks old. The baby was airlifted to hospital for treatment as a precautionary measure however the baby was not believed to be injured.
Two lanes of the southbound carriageway were closed and lengthy tailbacks built up. Motorists were advised to avoid the area. Many arterial routes were also affected.
