Wycombe District Council express disappointment at Wasps move to Coventry

| October 10, 2014

In a statement issued on Thursday 9th October 2014 Wycombe District Council have expressed their disappointment of learning that London Wasps Rugby Club, who have played in High Wycombe for the last 12 years, will be relocating to Coventry in December.

Cllr Richard Scott, Leader of Wycombe District Council, commented :

We really are very sorry to hear that Wasps will be leaving High Wycombe this year. Not only have they built-up a loyal fan base within the area, but they’ve also made a significant contribution to grass roots rugby in particular and wider community life in general.

I don’t make light of the fact that we wanted Wasps to stay in High Wycombe. I met with their Chief Executive on a number of occasions to discuss options for their future at Adams Park. During all of these discussions, the club made it very clear that that were looking for an improved match day experience for their fans and it’s obviously disappointing that this is not something that they felt they could pursue at Adams Park.

We would like to thank Wasps for their contribution to the Wycombe district over the last 12 years and wish them the best of luck for the future.
