MATCH REPORT – Morecambe 1-3 Wycombe Wanderers

A 3-1 victory over Morecambe propelled Wycombe Wanderers to the top of League Two this Saturday, 11th October 2014.

Wycombe started the stronger team and in the tenth minute Sam Wood’s amazing volley from 40 yards out found the back of the Morecambe net.

Five minutes later Paul Hayes put Wycombe two up with a close range shot.

In the dying moments of the first half Morecambe scored their first goal when Andy Fleming found the back of the Wycombe net from a cross in by Jamie Devitt. However a few minutes later Devitt was sent off for pushing Peter Murphy.

With Wycombe already leading by two goals to one, a free kick by Joe Jacobson sealed the match for Wycombe and put the Chairboys at the top of League Two.

Despite Wycombe’s dominance the Wanders only have possession of the ball for 45% of the game but five of their nine shots at goal were on target compared to just one of Morecambe’s six shots.

Sixteen fouls were committed by Wycombe with Morecambe notching up ten fouls. The match total of twenty six fouls, four yellow cards and one sending off showed the ferocity with which this game was fought. Wycombe went home victors and made their intention for promotion clear.

The attendance at the Globe Arena, Morecambe was 1,710.
