Stroke service based at Wycombe Hospital given highest ‘A’ rating
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s acute stroke service, based at Wycombe Hospital, has been ranked amongst the very highest in the country according to an independent audit by the esteemed Royal College of Physicians (RCP).
The RCP’s quarterly Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP) assessment has given the service the coveted ‘A’ overall rating which places it among the top 7% of stroke services in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
It is the first time any NHS Trust in the Thames Valley has been awarded the top ‘A’ Score.
The dedicated stroke unit offers treatment and support for around 1,000 actual and suspected stroke patients every year; from the very specialist blood-clot busting treatment given straight after suffering a stroke through to the ongoing therapy and rehabilitation given in the days, weeks and often months as patients travel on their path to recovery.
