FA Cup 3rd Round : Aston Villa 2-0 Wycombe Wanderers
On Tuesday 19th January 2016 Wycombe Wanderers travelled to Villa Park to resume their FA Cup 3rd round match with Aston Villa.
Wycombe had everything to play for after holding Villa to a 1-1 draw during the first tie at Adams Park on Saturday 9th January 2016.
In a lively match the Wanderers took up the mantle and came out fighting. In just the fourteenth minute Michael Harriman came close to scoring for Wycombe but his shot missed the top right corner of the Villa net.
During the first half both teams made attempts on goal but the scoreline remained goalless at half time.
Not deterred Wycombe kept up the pressure but in the seventy fifth minute Ciaran Clark scored for Villa. Idrissa Gueye scored in the ninetieth minute giving Villa an unsurpassable two goal lead and ensuring they progressed to the fourth round of the 2016 FA Cup.
Wycombe put on a good show against their Premiership opposition, however the statistics showed that Villa had 69% ball possession to just 31% for Wycombe.
Of the fourteen attempts that Villa made on goal seven were on target compared with just one of Wycombe’s six attempts.
The match saw twenty six fouls, eleven from Villa and fifteen by Wycombe players.
Wycombe’s FA Cup dream may be over for this year but the team has showed that they are more than a match when it comes to playing bigger clubs.
