| May 12, 2016

A 22 year old man has been sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment for a sexual assault in Aylesbury following an investigation by Thames Valley Police.

Viorel Ene, aged 22, of Cannock Road, Aylesbury was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Tuesday 10th May 2016 after pleading guilty at the same court on Tuesday 12th April 2016 to one count of sexual assault. He will also be on the Sexual Offenders Register for ten years.

Ene approached the victim, a 19 year old woman, on the Iron Bridge at about 5.00am on New Year’s Day,  Friday 1st January 2016. He briefly spoke to the victim before sexually assaulting her over her clothing.

He was arrested on the same day as the offence and was charged on Saturday 13th February 2016.

Investigating officer, PC Cat Cameron of the response team based at Aylesbury police station, said: ‘The custodial sentence handed down to Ene reflects the severity of this offence. He approached the victim, who he did not know, on New Year’s Day this year. He began chatting to the victim before then sexually assaulting her over her clothing.

I would like to praise the victim for showing the courage to come forward and engage with the Force’s investigation into this offence. I hope today’s sentencing brings some closure to the victim.

I hope this investigation serves as an example to victims of sexual offences that we will listen to you sensitively and investigate any allegation.
