Portsmouth 4-2 Wycombe Wanderers

After a dismal start to the new season Wycombe were looking for some desperately needed points when they travelled to Portsmouth on Saturday 10th September 2016.

Paul Hayes put Wycombe ahead after just ten minutes with a close range shot. The Chairboys lead was short lived as Portsmouth equalised with a goal from Christian Burgess in the thirty fourth minute, Portsmouth regained the lead when Gary Roberts scored from the penalty spot in the forty fifth minute after Sido Jombati fouled a Portsmouth player.

It was looking like Portsmouth would be going in at half-time in the lead however one minute into injury time Paul Hayes scored to level the score and bring Wycombe back into the game. However Conor Chaplin scored three minutes later, in the final moments of injury time, to make the score 3-2 in Portsmouth’s favour at half time.

In the fifty third minute Carl Baker volleyed home a shot to give Portsmouth a fourth goal. Wycombe were unable to respond and their dismal start to the season continued.

Throughout the match Portsmouth achieved 56% possession, of their seventeen shots on goal nine were on target. Only three of Wycombe’s eight shots were on target. Wycombe players committed fifteen fouls in the game compared with just nine for Portsmouth.

Wycombe are now in twenty second position in League Two with just five points from seven games.

The attendance at Fratton Park was 16,262 (489 from Wycombe).
