Wycombe travelled to Cambridge United on Saturday 19th November 2016 hopeful of an away league win, their last being on Saturday 9th February 2016.
The match came alight in just the fifth minute when Aaron Pierre was fouled by Mark Roberts in the penalty area. Paul Hayes duly converted from the spot in the sixth minute placing a right footed shot into the centre of the Cambridge goal.
Cambridge did not give up however the Wycombe goalkeeper, Jamal Blackman, kept the onslaught at bay to ensure that Wycombe were still in command of the match.
At half time the score in Wycombe’s favour by a solitary goal. Cambridge kept pressing and in the eighty seventh minute they equalised when George Maris put home the rebound after an attempt on goal from Uche Ikpeazu hit the inside of the far post.
In what was almost the last kick of the match Aaron Pierre scored from the centre of the box with a shot to the high centre of the goal following a corner. Wycombe had finally achieved their long awaited ambition of an away win.
The match stats show Wycombe achieved just 41% possession compared to Cambridge with 59%. Wycombe made eleven shots on goal with three on target. Cambridge placed six of their nineteen shots at goal on target. The match was marred with twenty four fouls, sixteen by Wycombe and eight by Cambridge.
Following today’s long awaited away win Wycombe rise away from the bottom of the table and move into tenth position in League Two with twenty two points from seventeen games.
The attendance at the Abbey Stadium was 4,139 (437 from Wycombe).
