Wycombe Wanderers travelled to Newport County on Tuesday 22nd November 2016.
Wet weather had posed a threat to the game with concerns over the pitch being waterlogged however the match went ahead as expected.
With Wycombe having just ended a long stretch without an away win and Newport having won their last seven games the match held great promise.
Both sides had plenty of chances in the first half however the score was still goalless at half time. The second half was contested just as eagerly by each of the teams however despite valiant efforts the ball just didn’t seem to find the back of either goal.
It was Wycombe who made the breakthrough in the eighty eighth minute when a free kick by Sido Jombati hit the woodwork and went into the top left corner of the Newport goal giving Wycombe a lead which came too late for Newport to do anything about.
Following today’s match Wycombe are propelled to eighth position in League Two, just one place short of the play off positions, with twenty five points from eighteen games.
During the game Wycombe managed 47% possession with four of their eight shots on target. Newport made twelve shots on goal but only three were on target.
The match saw twenty one fouls, nine by Wycombe and twelve by Newport.
