Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 Portsmouth

On Saturday 4th February 2017 Portsmouth were welcomed to Adams Park, High Wycombe for a League Two match against Wycombe Wanderers.

With Portsmouth also occupying a place in the League Two play-offs positions the match was one that Wycombe needed to win to bolster their hopes of promotion.

Portsmouth made a flying start to the match with Jamal Lowe making an attempt on goal in the first minute of the game however his shot missed to the right.

As the first half unfolded both sides had chances but failed to convert them into goals.

It was Wycombe who made the breakthrough just after the start of the second half. In the forty-eighth minute, Scott Kashket found the back of the Portsmouth net giving Wycombe a goal which was to win them the match.

Portsmouth had chances later in the second half but failed to score that elusive goal. The referee added a staggering nine minutes of extra time at the end of the game, during which Portsmouth made four attempts on the Wycombe goal however the Chairboys kept them at bay to win the match, claim the points and rise above their opponents in the league table.

During today’s game Wycombe managed just 46% possession and five of their eight shots on goal were on target. Portsmouth made sixteen shots on goal of which just three were on target. The match saw twenty four fouls, sixteen by Wycombe and eight by Portsmouth.

Wycombe now climb to sixth position in League Two with forty-six points from twenty eight games.

The attendance at Adams Park was 6,028 (1,800 from Portsmouth).
