Good Friday, 14th April 2017, saw Mansfield Town visit Adams Park for a League Two match against Wycombe Wanderers.
Mansfield Town made a good start to the game with their first attempt on goal coming in just the second minute of the match. However the shot by Danny Rose was saved as it headed towards the centre of the Wycombe goal.
Wycombe fought back and in the fourth minute of the match Joe Jacobson came close to scoring but his shot was also saved as it made its way towards the centre of the Mansfield goal.
In the thirteenth minute Mansfield Town took the lead through Krystian Pearce who headed in to the top right corner of the Wycombe goal from close range.
Throughout the rest of the first half both sides had chances and came close to scoring but at half time the score was still in the favour of Mansfield Town by a solitary goal.
The Chairboys came out for the second half in a determined frame of mind, they made plenty of chances and were by far the better team but the equalizing goal was elusive and the match ended in a win for Mansfield Town by one goal to nil.
During the match Wycombe achieved 57% possession and of their twelve shots on goal four were on target. Mansfield Town placed two of their five shots on goal on target. The match saw thirty one fouls, thirteen by Wycombe players and eighteen by Mansfield Town.
After today’s game Wycombe slip to thirteenth position in League Two with fifty nine points from forty two games. The dream of achieving a place in the play off positions look very unlikely now and the best that can be hoped for is a mid-table finishing position.
Once good piece of news for Wycombe supporters was the announcement made after today’s game that striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has signed a new one year contract extension and will remain at Wycombe Wanderers until the summer of 2018.
The attendance at Adams Park was 4,218 (305 from Mansfield Town).
