Cambridge United were welcomed to Adams Park on Saturday 6th May 2017 for a League Two match with Wycombe Wanderers.
At the start of what was the final match of the season it was still theoretically possible that Wycombe could still finish in the play off zone however the possibility was far from certain.
Wycombe took the initiative right from the start of the match, in just the third minute Scott Kashket made an attempt on the Cambridge goal however his shot missed to the left.
Both sides had chances in the first half however neither could manage to score an all important goal. The score was still goalless when the players when in at half time.
It was in the sixty fifth minute of the match that Wycombe went a goal up through a header from Scott Kashket which found the bottom right corner of the Cambridge goal.
The solitary goal was enough to win the match for Wycombe and earn them three points however both Carlisle and Blackpool won meaning that despite winning today’s match Wycombe finished the season in ninth place in League Two, two places from the play off zone, with sixty nine points from forty six matches. Blackpool who finished in seventh position in the League, occupying the final play off position, achieved seventy points from their forty six matches.
In today’s game Wycombe achieved 57% possession and placed five of their fourteen shots on goal on target. Carlisle however managed to get five of their nine shots on goal on target. The match saw twenty five fouls, seventeen by Wycombe players and eight by Carlisle.
