Carlisle United 3-3 Wycombe Wanderers
Wycombe Wanderers travelled to Carlisle United for a League Two match on Tuesday 17th October 2017.
Carlisle took an early lead when, in the fourth minute of the match, Reggie Lambe headed home from the right hand side of the six yard box.
Wycombe then had several attempts on the Carlisle goal but failed to respond to their hosts early lead.
In the thirty sixth minute Wycombe conceded a penalty when Nick Freeman fouled Shaun Miller. Jamie Devitt duly converted the penalty giving Carlisle a two goal advantage.
In the second minute of extra time at the end of the first half Wycombe clawed a goal back when Sam Saunders scored from a free kick, his right footed shot finding the top left corner of the Carlisle net.
The seventy second minute of the match saw the Wanderers draw level through a close range header by Adebayo Akinfenwa.
Carlisle still had everything to play for and in the eighty fourth minute they took the lead again when Reggie Lambe placed a right footed shot in to the bottom right corner of the Wycombe goal.
It looked very much as if the Blues were going to lose but they were determined to keep pressing for a goal to claim a draw. Their persistence produced dividends when, in the fourth minute of stoppage time at the end of the game, Paris Cowan-Hall headed home from the centre of the box.
Wycombe had turned a potential loss into a three all draw through their determination to succeed and had a point to show for making the three hundred mile journey to Carlisle.
While both sides achieved 50% possession, Wycombe made seventeen attempts on goal, six of which were on target. Just three of Carlisle’s nine shots on goal were on target. The game saw twenty four fouls, thirteen by Wycombe players and eleven by Carlisle.
After tonight’s game Wycombe are now in fourth place in League Two with fourteen points from twenty six games.
