The Marlow Club has confirmed plans to construction a two-storey car park on vacant land in Fieldhouse Lane, Marlow.

Approximately £1.4 million will be invested in the construction of the car park which will create an additional 165 spaces within Globe Business Park.

Plans submitted this week detail a decked car park that will provide approx 85 bays on the top floor that are reserved exclusively for The Marlow Club members. On the ground floor spaces will be managed by Wycombe District Council and offered to local businesses on a lease basis.

Jon Williams, Chief Operating Officer at The Marlow Club says: ‘Plans for the car park will help to alleviate some of the current issues with car parking and congestion on the business park as well as regenerating a derelict area which will improve the overall aesthetics of this section of the business park.

Constructing a new, purpose-built car park will create a more secure, long-term parking solution for our members. Throughout the building phase, we will make sure our members experience as little inconvenience as possible and will provide temporary, alternative car parking within walking distance of The Club.

Plans will be subject to the usual full independent planning process and assuming permissions are granted, building work on the car park is expected to start in early 2018. It is hoped, if all goes to plan, the first cars will be making use of this much needed facility by the middle of 2018.

Cllr Steve Broadbent, Wycombe District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: ‘The car park really is beneficial to everyone, providing additional parking capacity for members of The Marlow Club and spill over parking spaces for people staying at the proposed Travelodge hotel.

It also provides the council with further spaces that can be made available to the various businesses on the Globe Business Park, with the planned decked car park taking a significant amount of on-street parking off the road which should improve road safety, access and traffic movement around the park.

The parking solution also means that The Marlow Club can push ahead with ambitious plans to redevelop and create a bespoke Yoga and Pilates studio like no other facility in the locality for its members. The works will also include a complete reconfiguration of the existing facilities to incorporate a new lounge and café restaurant area, extra therapy rooms, an extension to the fitness space and ladies changing room as well as a complete refurbishment of the existing area.

Consultation with architects and interior designers is under way with the aim of submitting a planning application this side of Christmas. Assuming the necessary permissions are granted work can start in early 2018 and the aim will be to complete by September 2018.

The Marlow Club is owned by The Really Fine Leisure Company (RFL) and located in Globe Business Park, Marlow, Bucks. Originally built in the 1970’s it was run as a squash club for more than a decade before being re-branded as Oasis in the 1980’s when it went on to become a popular health club for the area.

In 2003 RFL acquired Oasis and two years later invested £1.5 million in an ambitious re-development programme which saw it re-branded as the Marlow Club in 2005.
