Brexit summit to be held in the Old Town Hall in High Wycombe
A summit focusing on the challenges and opportunities for the county’s businesses and public services as Britain leaves the EU is to be held in High Wycombe.
Organised by Buckinghamshire County Council in conjunction with Buckinghamshire Business First the day long event will be held on Friday 8th December 2018 at High Wycombe’s Old Town Hall in Queen Victoria Road.
The summit will bring together national and local expertise to look at how the local economy and services can be best placed to realise the opportunities that this major change in Britain’s international status will offer, while at the same time being prepared to reduce the impact of any potential difficulties the transition may present.
Steve Baker MP, Minister at the Department for Exiting the EU, will be the keynote speaker for the afternoon session who will talk about current government thinking on Brexit as it relates to local government and businesses in Buckinghamshire.
The event will also see the launch of a new report taking an evidence-based look at the opportunities and challenges for Buckinghamshire as Britain leaves the EU.
Leader of Buckinghamshire County Council Martin Tett, who will open the afternoon session, commented: ‘In Buckinghamshire, the County Council is working together with our private sector to ensure that we’re on the front foot with preparations for Brexit.
We want to be best placed to benefit from the great economic opportunities it will offer, but every major change comes with risks, and we want to be prepared for any potential negative impact too.‘
Buckinghamshire Business First Managing Director Philippa Batting said: ‘This event is a key part of our preparations for Brexit, and I’d encourage local businesses and service providers to attend – the event will let you hear the very latest thinking on our preparations for leaving the EU, and give you the opportunity to engage directly with government and inform Brexit thinking and preparations at the highest level.‘
