Hundreds of people support SaveWycombeHospital campaign to protect Wycombe Hospital site
Hundreds of people have signed two petitions to protect the Wycombe Hospital site.
More than a thousand signatures in total were submitted in time for the original deadline of Monday 27th November 2017 when comments on the consultation for the new Wycombe District Local Plan closed.
However the deadline for comments on the consultation has been extended another week and will now close at 11.59pm on Monday 4th December 2017.
Both petitions relate to a consultation on the New Local Plan which sets out the policies which will help to map out the future of the Wycombe district and which will be used to guide local development and planning decisions for the next 15 years.
The first petition entitled ‘Protect Wycombe Hospital Land‘ asks for the removal of a paragraph which has caused worry over the redevelopment of Wycombe Hospital.
The second calls for the ‘Expansion of Wycombe Hospital as an option for a full consultation on the Office Outlet site‘, the redevelopment of which is mentioned in the new Wycombe District Local Plan.
The petitions describe the importance of the location of the hospital.
Save Wycombe Hospital Campaign Leader Miss Ozma Hafiz who set up the letters said: ‘Thank you to everyone who helped with this over a short space of time, including Leigh Day for their advice.
Our hospital’s location is of key importance for patients, visitors and staff in our town and neighbouring villages. It is also a memorial to those that died in the Great War and use for other than hospital won’t be forgiven.‘
The petitions have been backed by a range of people including former mayors, local businesses and re-tweeted by actor Robert Lindsay and ex Wasps player Tim Payne.
Ghulam Rubani from Thara Properties backed the open letters. He said: ‘There should be a full public consultation before making any decision. The location of Wycombe hospital is vital for the town. It’s close to the M40, J3,4,5, A404 and many villages.
Thousands of homes have been planned for High Wycombe and around this area. Our population is increasing every year. We do need a hospital where we should have facilities. A 24/7 Children’s Ward and A&E is top priority.‘
