Newport County were welcomed Adams Park on Boxing Day 2017 for a League Two match against Wycombe Wanderers.
Wycombe made a brisk start to the match. Their first attempt on the Newport goal came in the fifth minute when Adebayo Akinfenwa headed from the centre of the box, although close the header missed the top left corner of the goal.
The fifteenth minute of the match saw Wycombe score their first goal when Nathan Tyson struck a left footed shot from the centre of the box into the bottom left corner of the Newport net.
Both sides had further chances in the first half however when the half time whistle went Wycombe were still leading by a solitary goal.
The second half continued where the first half left off. Both sides having chances but failing to score until the seventieth minute when a Adebayo Akinfenwa free kick gave Wycombe the second goal of the match.
Newport were reduced to ten men in the ninetieth minute when Joss Labadie was given a second yellow card for a bad foul on Wycombe’s Luke O’Nien.
The score remained two goals to nil in Wycombe’s favour when the final whistle blew. Following today’s match the Wanderers climb to fourth position in League Two with forty points from twenty four games.
The match stats show Wycombe achieving 49% possession, however Wycombe managed to get six of their nine shots on goal on target. Newport managed to get three of their six attempts on goal on target. The match saw thirty one fouls, fourteen by Wycombe and seventeen by Newport.
The attendance at Adams Park was 4,629 (261 from Newport County).
