League Two leaders, Accrington Stanley, were welcomed to Adams Park on Saturday 21st April 2018 for a League Two match against Wycombe Wanderers.
Already safely promoted, Accrington set about showing why they were heading up the League Two table when in the fifteenth minute they scored their first goal of the game. Kayden Jackson shot from close range with the ball finding the back of the net in the centre of the Wycombe goal.
In the thirty third minute Accrington scored a second through Scott Brown who shot from long range into the top left corner of the net.
At half time Accrington were two goals up but they came out just as determined in the second half. The sixty sixth minute saw Accrington’s third goal. Sean McConville shot from the centre of the box with the ball finding the bottom left corner of the net.
With the match already beyond Wycombe’s grasp, during injury time and the end of the game Accrington were handed a penalty when Offrande Zanzala was fouled by Wycombe’s Nathan McGinley in the penalty area. Offrande Zanzala duly converted the penalty in the ninety fifth minute shooting straight into the bottom left corner of the Wycombe goal.
Despite the overwhelming scoreline Wycombe did have chances throughout the match but failed to covert them into goals.
Wycombe managed 53% possession and placed three of their eight shots on goal on target. Accrington placed four of their nine shots on target. The match saw twenty three fouls, thirteen by Wycombe players and ten by Accrington.
Following today’s game Wycombe remain in third position in League Two, still in the automatic promotion zone, with seventy eight points from forty four matches.
With just two games remaining in the 2017/18 season, away to currently bottom of the table Chesterfield and at home to fifteenth place Stevenage it look like the Blues may just be able to cling on to their automatic promotion place however they need to win both games.
