Field fire in Marlow spread to industrial units

A fire in a field of grassland and standing corn at Little Marlow spread to nearby industrial units and resulted in closure of the A404.

Firefighters were called to a field at Pump Lane South, Little Marlow at about 4.30pm on Monday 2nd July 2018. More than twenty fire appliances attended the fire near to the Wyevale Garden Centre.

The operation to extinguish the fire is expected to be ongoing throughout the night. Firefighters have used a high volume pump, four main jets, six hose reels and six sets of breathing apparatus.

The fire spread to industrial units and a warehouse, which was connected to a property, which has been severely damaged. The fire is now under control.

For a time the A404 was closed in both directions due to smoke blowing across the road, the road has since reopened. The A4155 between Marlow and Bourne End was also closed for a time.

People in the area nearby were advised to stay indoors and close doors and windows.

Nobody has been seriously injured as a result of the fire however a number of people were treated by ambulance staff at the scene.

Thames Valley Police have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the fire. Superintendent Rebecca Mears, said: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank motorists in and around the area for their patience.

“We have been working to get the road open as soon as possible, but we have to wait for the area to be safe to do so.
