Platform 4 opens at Princes Risborough station providing link to Chinnor

| August 15, 2018

On Wednesday 15th August 2018 platform 4 was officially opened at Princes Risborough Station.

The new platform provides a new cross platform interchange facility between Chiltern Railways services and those operated by the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway.

The opening of the new cross platform interchange facility means that public rail services between Princes Risborough and Chinnor have once again become a reality.

The first train of the day ran from Chinnor to Princes Risborough and carried VIPs invited to attend the grand opening of Platform 4 at Princes Risborough.

Limited public services operated in the afternoon of Wednesday 15th August 2018 with services running as ‘The Watlington Flyer’ and travelling non stop in around 20 minutes each way for the almost four mile trip in each direction.

The locomotive that hauled the first trains was Great Western 5526 that was specially loaned for the event by the South Devon Railway.

The new cross platform interchange facility will mean that the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway steam railway is the nearest main line connected heritage railway to London at just 40 minutes traveling time from London Marylebone.
