Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers
Wycombe Wanderers visited Plymouth Argyle on the evening of Tuesday 21st August 2018 for a League One match.
Wycombe were looking to win their first League One match since promotion however the match did not start well for them. In just the fourth minute Plymouth took the lead when Freddie Ladapo shot from the centre of the box, the ball found the bottom left corner of the Wycombe goal.
However despite the early set back the Chairboys kept pressing and tested the Plymouth goalkeeper on several occasions most notable in the fifteenth minute then Matt Bloomfield shot for goal and in the twenty first minute when Michael Harriman tried to bring the scores level.
At half time Plymouth were still in the lead by a single goal.
Both teams had chances during the opening minutes of the second half. In the sixtieth minute Craig Mackail-Smith nearly brought Wycombe back into the game but his shot, from a difficult angle, hit Plymouth’s right goal post.
Desperate to at least draw level Wycombe kept pressing, making three attempts on the Plymouth goal in the space of a few minutes, in the sixty fourth, sixty fifth and sixty eighth minutes, but sadly the first shot missed, the second shot was blocked and the third missed.
The assault on the Plymouth goal continued with a Matt Bloomfield attempt blocked in the seventy first minute. Just a few seconds later Scott Kashket shot but missed to the right. Two minutes later, in the seventy third minute, Bryn Morris forced a save from the Plymouth keeper.
In the eighty fourth minute Wycombe made the breakthrough they had been looking for. Matt Bloomfield produced the equalizer with a shot into the bottom right corner from a difficult angle on the left of the goal.
However the referee deemed Matt Bloomfield’s goal celebration excessive and showed him the yellow card.
Wycombe kept searching for a second goal, in the eighty eighth minute Scott Kashket came close to scoring but his shot hit the left post.
The match ended as a draw. Wycombe still have not won a League One match outright this season. However a draw secures a point which is better than leaving with none.
Following today’s game Wycombe remain in twenty third position, one place from the bottom, in League One with two points from four games.
