Amersham multi-storey car park extension to open on Fri 30th Nov 2018
A new extension to the multi-storey car park in King George V Road, Amersham is to open on Friday 30th November 2018.
On the opening weekend parking will be free in the car park on both Saturday and Sunday.
The new extension at the station car park will add an extra 502 spaces to the existing car park bringing the total number of parking spaces available to 1046. The car park will also have provision for electric car charge points, CCTV and a lift.
Work to extend the car park started on Monday 16th October 2017 and was carried out by contractors Balfour Beatty. The project was procured through the Scape National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework.
Cllr Mike Smith, Cabinet Member for Environment at Chiltern District Council, said: ‘I’m delighted to say that the Amersham multi-storey car park extension will be opening to the public next Friday, within budget and in time for the busy Christmas trading season.
The existing car park was full three days a week, but this extension provides 502 spaces which we anticipate will increase long-stay parking use here, freeing up more short-stay spaces in other car parks closer to the town centre, a potential boost for local businesses.
This represents a multi-million pound investment for Amersham and its surrounding communities at no cost to the local tax payer as the income from the additional parking spaces will pay for the development over time.
I’d like to thank residents and visitors for their support and patience throughout the construction period.
Now that the extension is opening, I’d like to welcome our existing customers back and look forward to attracting some new ones too.‘
The charges to park in the car park remain the same as they were prior to the extension. Season tickets can be purchased from the Chiltern District Council website at http://www.chiltern.gov.uk/parking.
