Random Acts of Kindness Week celebrated by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust
Staff at Buckinghamshire Healthcare HNS Trust were involved in a range of activities during Random Acts of Kindness Week.
To celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week, which ran from Monday 11th to Sunday 17 February 2019, Trust staff were encouraged to get involved in a range of activities to show their appreciation of colleagues and the wider community.
The week launched with a video in which staff and patients thanked colleagues, teams or departments for their support. The film also included a message of thanks from Chief executive, Neil Macdonald: ‘I’ve just spent the last two weeks visiting all our sites across the county and I just want to say a big thank you to all our staff. I’ve seen some amazing things, some outstanding practice and some humblingly good patient care, so I just want to say a big thank you from me on behalf of the board.‘
Each day had a different theme such as ‘compliment a colleague’, ‘donate to those in need’, ‘show love to yourself’, ‘show love to others’, ‘gift a book’, ‘positive reflection’ and ‘find out something new about a colleague’. Throughout the week staff have been challenged to perform random acts of kindness for others and post them on social media using hashtags #BHTKindnessWeek #RandomsActsofKindness #ItStartsWithOneSmallAct.
The response was overwhelming and creative with staff making handmade gems for colleagues, managers taking their teams for lunch and the library team waiving overdue library fines for a day. In addition to this, staff gifted things to each other and donated items to local charities.
To thank our staff for the exceptional work they do, the Organisational Development team arranged free massage for staff at Wycombe Hospital, donated by the Massage Company, which was well received.
The Massage Company said: ‘NHS staff are the cornerstone of any community, and some of the hardest working. We are always happy to help out the NHS staff at wellness events like this one, and give a little back to the people who help us most.‘
The week provided an opportunity for staff to demonstrate to their colleagues just how valued they are and to remind them that they are appreciated.
THANK YOU so much to the Massage Company, in High Wycombe, for treating our staff to free massage. It was truly appreciated. Staff were able to treat themselves to a 15 min massage, which fits perfectly with today’s theme ‘show love to yourself’ #BHTKindnessWeek #BeKind pic.twitter.com/4gePczRkYr
