Attempt to grab woman in London Road, High Wycombe

An appeal for witnesses has been launched by Thames Valley Police following an incident in High Wycombe in which an attempt was made to grab a woman.

On Monday 8th April 2019, at around 1.30am, a woman in her twenties was walking along London Road in High Wycombe from the direction of the town centre.

A silver van or people carrier approached the woman, the driver offered the woman a lift. However after the woman declined the offer of a lift a second man appeared from the rear sliding doors of the van and attempted to grab the woman.

Following her ordeal the woman managed to run away unharmed.

The vehicle involved was silver in colour and is described as either a van or a people carrier.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Simone Marples, of Force CID, based at High Wycombe, said: ‘I am at this stage appealing for anybody who was driving in the area at around 1.30am who has dash-cam footage to contact us.

I am also asking for anybody who witnessed this incident to get in touch, quoting reference number 43190105387.

Similarly, if anybody has any CCTV along London Road, please contact us.

Although this incident was frightening for the victim, her quick actions ensured that she was not harmed and the vehicle drove off.

I appreciate that incidents such as this will cause concern to the local community, but I would like to re-assure that we are following active lines of enquiry and are investigating the circumstances thoroughly.
