Shadow Executive of the new Buckinghamshire Council defers decision on creating town council for High Wycombe

| January 10, 2020

The Shadow Executive of the new Buckinghamshire Council has deferred the decision on possible the outcomes of the High Wycombe Community Governance Review

At a meeting held on Tuesday 7th January 2020  the Shadow Executive of the new Buckinghamshire Council was presented with several options regarding what to do with the Governance Review of the unparished area of High Wycombe.

It was decided at the meeting to defer taking a decision on the High Wycombe Community Governance Review until after the new Buckinghamshire Council is created on Wednesday 1st April 2020. However the Shadow Executive recognised that further consultation may be necessary at that stage.

Although it was Wycombe District Council who resolved to undertake the Community Governance review, because Wycombe District Council will be abolished after Tuesday 31st March 2020 and replaced by Buckinghamshire Council, the responsibility for deciding what happens next will rest with the Shadow Executive of the new Buckinghamshire Council rather than the predecessor council.

Be deferring the decision it means that by the time the decision is taken, the five previous councils in Buckinghamshire, including Wycombe District Council, will have ceased to exist. Therefore the decision on the outcome of the Community Governance Review in High Wycombe, including whether or not a Town Council is set up in High Wycombe, will be taken wholly by the new Buckinghamshire Council.
