Work on major transformation of Marlow Library to start on Monday 13th July 2020
On Monday 13th July 2020 major transformation work will start on Marlow Library.
The work will include a complete remodel and refurbishment of the building.
Once completed, the new library will boast improved computer facilities, a new meeting room, self-service technology and loanable tablet computers. All shelving and furniture will be replaced and the library will be redecorated throughout.
There will also be a bigger and better children’s space with bold colours, lots of low comfortable seating and bean bags, themed seating and a sensory StoryWall®.
An artist will also be commissioned to enhance the distinctive interior design with an original installation inspired by Marlow’s unique identity.
During the work Marlow Library will move to a temporary location in the former children’s centre building beside Sandygate School in Sandygate Road, SL7 3AZ. This site will open from Tuesday 21st July 2020 and the temporary opening hours will be 9.30am to 12.30pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
The building works will be completed within 14 weeks and library staff look forward to welcoming customers to a fresh, attractive and modern library with the addition of some exciting new features and plenty of new books.
Cllr Gareth Williams, Cabinet Member for Communities & Public Health at Buckinghamshire Council, said: ‘Libraries have such an important role to play in supporting businesses, employment and mental health at this difficult time. This project is an exciting initiative for our new council and will transform Marlow Library.‘
Local Marlow councillor, Alex Collingwood, commented: ‘I’m delighted that Marlow Library is now entering the next phase of its development to serve the residents of Marlow and the surrounding villages in the South West Chilterns Area.
The new library will also serve as a Council Access Point allowing residents and visitors much greater access to Buckinghamshire Council services.‘
