A High Wycombe school has appointed its first female Headteacher.

Crown House Preparatory School based at Bassetsbury Manor, Bassetsbury Lane, High Wycombe has started 2021 on a high note with the arrival of a new Headteacher, Mrs Sarah Hobby.

Crown House is part of the Chatsworth family of schools and Mrs Hobby is a graduate of the Chatsworth Schools Leadership Training Programme.

Mrs Hobby is the former Deputy Head of Highfield Preparatory School in Maidenhead, where she had both academic and pastoral care responsibilities and as an Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspector was involved in making sure the school was always inspection ready.

Prior to joining Highfield, Mrs Hobby was Deputy Head of Pre-Prep and Housemistress of the Junior Girls Boarding House at Marlborough College Malaysia, a sister school to Marlborough College UK, where she developed the Pre-Prep’s curriculum and established a strong community spirit.

Mrs Hobby takes over from David Ward, Interim Headteacher of Crown House, who has been in post for one term following the decision by the previous Headteacher, Ben Kenyon, to stand down and take a break from education after 21 years at the school.

Anita Gleave, Founder and CEO of Chatsworth Schools, said: ‘We are delighted that Mrs Sarah Hobby has joined Crown House as the new Headteacher. Mrs Hobby is committed to the values, ethos and distinctive feel of Crown House and I believe she will be a real asset for the school. I know she will work tirelessly in the best interests of pupils and staff to enable outstanding futures for all.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank both David Ward, Interim Headteacher, for his sterling work at the school over the last term and the previous Headteacher Ben Kenyon, for all his work for Crown House and in particular for his leadership as Head over the past six years.

Mrs Sarah Hobby, Headteacher of Crown House, said: ‘Crown House is an exceptional school with a unique family atmosphere where pupils thrive and are allowed to fulfil their full potential. Pupils are at the heart of everything that happens at Crown House and I will be looking at ways in which we can strengthen this even further through nurturing pastoral care and an even broader curriculum that includes greater outdoor learning opportunities and a focus on wellbeing for our pupils and their families. I am thrilled to be part of the Crown House community and look forward to the term ahead.
