The Waste Wizard online recycling and reuse tool from Buckinghamshire Council has received over 100,000 first-time visitors.

The online tool that allows residents to see which waste items can be recycled or reused has now had over 100,000 first-time visitors since its launch in 2018. In addition, the Waste Wizard is currently being used by more than 5,000 visitors per month.

The Waste Wizard enables residents to search thousands of items from pop bottles to paddling pools, to see which items can be recycled.

Residents simply enter their postcode and a short description of the item they want to dispose of – the tool will then display the correct bin they should put the item in.

If the item can be reused, the tool will suggest giving it a new lease of life by passing it on. Options include donating to a local charity shop or giving away on the free online reuse network Freegle.

As a fun way of encouraging people to learn and know more about reusing and recycling, the Waste Wizard also offers an interactive ‘Recycle Right’ game. This educational game lets players test their recycling knowledge.

Martin Dickman, Service Director for Neighbourhood Services at Buckinghamshire Council, said: ‘Our Waste Wizard has rapidly become the primary route for residents to find out how to recycle or reuse items they want to dispose of. The fact that we’ve now had over 100,00 first-time users of the online tool, shows just how popular and useful the Waste Wizard is.

If residents haven’t yet tried out the Waste Wizard, I’d encourage them to do so by heading over to the Buckinghamshire Council website or by going to www.recycleforbuckinghamshire.co.uk/waste-wizard.
