Local radio station Wycombe Sound has been granted an extension to their operating licence by Ofcom.
High Wycombe’s multi award winning local radio station Wycombe Sound, has been granted a further five year extension to their operating licence from Ofcom – taking them up to 2026.
After three successful pilots the station, originally went live in 2016 and broadcast a range of locally produced programmes with a team of over 70 volunteers.
The station has worked with countless local charities and businesses to help them promote their causes and services to High Wycombe and the surrounding areas.
In 2019 Wycombe Sound also launched Employment FM, a five week course that teaches unemployed people who face challenges in seeking employment to make radio programmes whilst brushing up on their key skills. It is a partnership with Building Futures Buckinghamshire and has resulted in participants receiving exciting opportunities at the end of the five weeks.
Over the previous five years, Wycombe Sound has won numerous awards at the Community Radio Awards, including:
- Station of the Year (2017)
- Outside Broadcast of the Year (2018)
- Best Entertainment Show (Rob L’Esperance Radio Show, 2018)
- Specialist Music Show (Roots Collective, 2019)
The station was also shortlisted in the John Myers Award for Best Local Radio Station at the ARIAS (2020).
