Wycombe Heights Golf Centre has been successfully re-accredited as Golf Environment Organisation Certified® for the next five years.
Wycombe Heights Golf Centre, a Burhill Group Limited (BGL) venue in Rayners Avenue, Loudwater, High Wycombe, has been successfully re-accredited as Golf Environment Organisation Certified® for the next five years, highlighting the club’s continued commitment to sustainable practices.
The GEO certification encompasses environmental success in the areas of golf facility operations, golf development and renovation, and golf tournaments. This status demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement around nature, resources and the community.
This announcement follows the recent completion of a water retention project, including the building of a new 10,000 cubic metre reservoir. This resource means that Wycombe Heights will not need to draw any water from the mains when watering the golf courses through the warmer months.
A number of smaller projects have also contributed to the recognition, such as a reduction in the use of cling film and takeaway cups, as well as a switch to ultra-efficient LED lighting, with sensors to minimise wastage, around the entire facility.
Speaking on the re-accreditation, General Manager, Sarah Blunden, said: ‘We are delighted to have been re-accredited as a GEO certified venue. Whether it be energy usage, water retention, or ways of working, we are constantly looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint and become more sustainable.
The GEO platform is fantastic and shows just how far the industry has come. It gives us the opportunity to look at our golf club differently and make changes to working practices in order to continue progressing as a business.
As we move forward, we will continue to look for new ways to become more sustainable, through the implementation of things such as solar panels and electric car charging points. We will also look to work with our green keeping team to transition our maintenance equipment into hybrid or electric powered alternatives.‘
Wycombe Heights Golf Centre boasts two fantastic golf courses, including a scenic 18-hole Main Course with spectacular views over the countryside, and a Short Course that provides a great challenge for beginner golfers or experienced players looking to sharpen their game. The club offers something for all, with a floodlit driving range, a well-stocked golf shop and a relaxing Café Bar and Grill.
