The gardening team at Hughenden have recently been planting summer bedding on the parterre.

The 2023 bedding scheme has been designed to attract pollinators using the three ‘colours’ that bees can see – ultra violet light, blue and green – by bringing in blues with verbenas and salvias and white begonia, cosmos and dahlia.

Bees can also detect yellow, so head gardener Claire Primett included some yellow cannas to lift the scheme. Simple flower shapes help insects to seek out the nectar.
