Flood Fayre to be held in Marlow on Tue 18th Sep 2018
The first Flood Fayre to be staged by Buckinghamshire County Council is to be held in Marlow on Tuesday 18th September 2018.
The event will be held at Court Garden House, Marlow between noon and 8.00pm and will bring together seven major organisations that respond to flooding emergencies.
Representatives will also be on hand to chat informally about the different types of floods to which Marlow is susceptible, how to prepare for flooding, and the flood risk schemes operating in the town.
Bill Chapple OBE, Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment at Buckinghamshire County COuncil, said the Flood Fayre was organised in response to feedback from residents of flood-susceptible homes, following surface water and sewage flooding last summer.
‘We’d like residents to be reassured about how emergency services and flood management authorities work together to help them,‘ said Bill. ‘We’d also like to help residents understand the types of flooding that could affect them, and how they can protect themselves and their homes.‘
Displays will show which organisations do what in the event of a flood, provide information on flood risk schemes in Marlow, demonstrate mapping to show each resident’s flood risk, and invite them to contribute to the County Council’s flooding records.
Marlow, which is at risk from river, surface water and ground water flooding had 11 flood events between 2006 and 2014.
An £8.5 million flood alleviation scheme, to protect homes in the Pound Lane and Firview areas of Marlow, is under construction by the Environment Agency. It follows the severe weather of winter 2013/14 which left parts of Marlow under several feet of water.
The Flood Fayre will run in conjunction with Transport for Buckinghamshire’s exhibition of options to protect Marlow Bridge from use by over-weight vehicles. Engineers will be on hand to discuss proposals with residents.
The following organisations will be represented at the event :
- Wycombe District Council – Emergency Planning, Development Management & Planning Policy
- Buckinghamshire County Council – Flood Management, SuDS Officers, Resilience
- Marlow Town Council
- Environment Agency – Sustainable Places, Partnership & Strategic Overview, Marlow FAS Project Manager & LLFA Advisors
- Transport for Buckinghamshire
