Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service to transfer fire safety training to private company

| August 16, 2014

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service has announced that from 29th August 2014 it intends to transfer its Industrial and Commercial Training Unit (ICTU) to a private company that two of its current employees propose to establish.

This will enable the ICTU, which provides fire safety training to businesses, to ‘spin out’ from the fire and rescue service. Training will be delivered through a new company owned and operated by the two employees who have been employed in the running of the ICTU for the past 16 years.

It is believed that Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service is the first in the country to ‘spin out’ part of its service to its employees using powers under the Localism Act 2011 and the Community Right to Challenge (Fire and Rescue Authorities and Rejection of Expressions of Interest) (England) Regulations 2012.
