MATCH REPORT – Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 Cambridge United
The 100th League goal by Paul Hayes in the 63rd minute secured Wycombe an emphatic victory over Cambridge Untied at Adams Park.
The 31 year old Wycombe striker scored from close range with the Cambridge goalkeeper unable to handle the power of the ball and instead of saving the shot it was deflected into the corner of the net.
Despite Cambridge starting the game the best of the two sides Wycombe managed to create chances and finished the first half the more dominant team. Ball possession was an even 50% to both sides over the whole match. Wycombe managed three shots on goal compared to Cambridge’s one.
Today’s victory over Cambridge places Wycombe in second place in League Two on 21 points after 10 matches. There is now an air of confidence at Adams Park in sharp contrast to the near exit from the Football League which nearly befell the Chairboy’s at the end of last season. If Wycombe keep playing as they did today promotion is a distinct possibility this season.
Attendance : 3,610 (418 from Cambridge)
