Turntable ladder from High Wycombe fire station sent to major fire at Didcot B power station

High Wycombe fire station has sent it’s turntable ladder to assist Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue with a major fire at Didcot B Power Station.

The fire at Didcot B broke out just after 8.00pm on Sunday 19th October 2014. At its height twenty fire appliances were engaged in battling the blaze which broke out in one of the cooling towers.

Operated by RWE npower the gas-burning power station has been in operation since July 1997 and can supply 1,360 MWe of electricity, enough to power to up to one million homes.

Police have warned people living in the local vicinity of the power station to stay indoors and close their doors and windows.
