Poppies displayed on AVDC waste collection vehicles
Waste collection vehicles operating in the Aylesbury Vale area are showing support for the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal.
Until 11th November 2014 up to 30 vehicles in the waste fleet owned by Aylesbury Vale District Council will be displaying poppies in the cab windows as they do their rounds. This is the first year that the council’s collection vehicles will be sporting the red flowers.
The poppies have been purchased by Aylesbury Vale District Council from the legion in aid of the annual Poppy Appeal.
Councillor Sir Beville Stanier, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, said: ‘The Poppy Appeal this year has extra significance as the nation remembers the outbreak of World War I and the bravery and sacrifices shown by our armed forces both past and present. Waste collections are something that every household in the district benefits from so I hope that those people who see our collection vehicles wearing their poppies with pride will support the appeal in their own way and take a moment to remember our armed forces.‘
