Opinion : Wycombe Sound is one of the most positive things to happen in Wycombe for years

I’m really enjoying listening to Wycombe Sound 87.9FM, the community radio station currently based in Enterprise HQ in Church Street, High Wycombe.

There are so many interesting programmes to listen to on Wycombe Sound, indeed most of my time is now spent listening in on my trusty radio.

Sadly there are just eight more days of broadcasts to go until the temporary station, operating on an Ofcom Restricted Services Licence, goes off the air on Wednesday 24th December 2014. I shall deeply miss hearing the live shows and lively presenters when the station disappears.

For someone living on their own a friendly community radio station is literally a lifeline that helps to brighten the day and gives company.

From interviews with local business people to informative articles on things happening in the town Wycombe Sound always seems to be broadcasting something that interests me.

I’ve even started getting up early just to sit in my kitchen and listen to the breakfast show which is most excellent.

The other day yours truly tuned in to the drive time programme which was so enthralling that after arriving home I ended up sitting in my car, parked on my driveway, for a further hour just to hear the end of the programme.

Besides the talk programmes there are also foot tapping music shows, which cater for all tastes of music from classical, to 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and the newfangled modern dancing music with loud thumping drums for the youngsters.

From 7.00am until midnight and beyond my good self has been tuning in.

By George! Wycombe Sound has really excelled in providing entertainment for the people of Wycombe. How can such a good thing come to an end? How can the talented presenters just be allowed to disappear from the airwaves of Wycombe?

Take a listen for yourself on 87.9FM or listen live online and I’m sure you will agree with me.

I for one think that Wycombe Sound should become a permanent feature in the town, the radio station is filling a huge gap and it’s helping to bring the community together.

I would go as far to say that the radio station is one of the most positive things to happen in Wycombe for years.

I’m just a humble person tuning in but I’m left wondering what does it take to make the radio station a permanent feature of the town?

Surely something can be done to make Wycombe Sound part and parcel of life in Wycombe? The sooner that happens the better.
