(UPDATED : 9.45pm 25/01/2015) M40 closed following collision and car fire between Junction 3 Loudwater and Junction 4 Handy Cross
A collision and car fire occurred on the Northbound carriageway of the M40 between Junction 3 (Loudwater) and Junction 4 (Handy Cross) shortly before approximately 8.00pm on Sunday 25th January 2015.
Firefighters and the ambulance service are reported to be at the scene.
The M40 has been closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the incident. Due to the severity of the incident the M40 is likely to be closed for several hours, drivers are advised to avoid the area.
Southbound traffic is being diverted via the A404 and A40 while Northbound traffic is being diverted via the A355, A40 and A404.
Traffic approaching on the M25 clockwise wishing to travel to Oxford and the West Midlands is advised to exit the M25 at J15 and use the M4 westbound and A404(M) northbound to join the M40 northbound at J4.
Traffic approaching on the M6 and M42 from the North West and West Midlands wishing to travel to London is advised to use the M6 and M1.
The motorway is expected to re-open at 6.00am on Monday 26th January 2015 however motorists are advised to check before travelling if they are planning to use the M40.
