The M40 is expected to re-open around 6.00am on the morning of Monday 26th January 2015 following a collision and car fire which occurred on Sunday 25th January 2015.

Following the collision the motorway was closed in both directions between Junction 4 (Handy Cross) and Junction 3 (Loudwater) Southbound and Junction 2 (Beaconsfield) and Junction 4 (High Wycombe) Northbound.

At around 11.00pm on Sunday 25th January 2015 one lane of the Southbound carriageway was re-opened to traffic.

Anyone planning to use the M40 tomorrow morning is advised to check before travelling to ensure the motorway is open. Until the motorway reopens motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via the A404 and A40 while Northbound traffic is being diverted via the A355, A40 and A404.

Traffic approaching on the M25 clockwise wishing to travel to Oxford and the West Midlands is advised to exit the M25 at J15 and use the M4 westbound and A404(M) northbound to join the M40 northbound at J4.

Traffic approaching on the M6 and M42 from the North West and West Midlands wishing to travel to London is advised to use the M6 and M1.

UPDATE at 9.30am on Monday 26th January 2015 : The M40 has since re-opened in both directions however there are reported to be delays due to repairs to the motorway infrastructure.
