The M40 was closed in both directions during the late afternoon of Wednesday 11th November 2015 following a collision involving a minibus and a camper van.

Both vehicles left the carriageway and went down an embankment on the Southbound carriageway between Junction 4 (Handy Cross) and Junction 3 (Loudwater).

Firefighters were called at 4.09pm. Two fire appliances with crews were despatched to the scene from High Wycombe fire station as well as one from Beaconsfield fire station. An officer also attended.

An injured man was released from the wreckage of the vehicle in which he was travelling by the firefighters. Another man and a woman, both of whim were injured, managed to escape from their vehicle before the firefighters arrived.

An air ambulance was called to the scene and landed on the motorway.

Due to the closure of the M40 heavy traffic built up in the Handy Cross area and on the feeder roads in High Wycombe leading to the motorway. Motorists faced severe delays while the motorway was closed.

The M40 has since re-opened.
