Police launch information appeal following fight between youths armed with baseball bats and knives in High Wycombe

| March 6, 2016

At around 3.55pm on Saturday 5th March 2016 Thames Valley Police were called to Desborough Recreation Ground in Fryers Lane following reports of a fight.

Upon arrival at the scene police found approximately 20 to 25 youths in attendance. Some of them were armed with weapons including baseball bats and knives. Fortunately, no one was found to be seriously injured.

Four people were arrested following this incident; two 15 year old boys and two 16 year old boys from High Wycombe, all on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. On Sunday 6th March 2016 a further three have been arrested and are currently in custody.

Sgt Darren Mitchell from High Wycombe Neighbourhood Policing said:  ‘Officers reacted swiftly and calmly to this violent disorder and were able to break up the fight and speak to those involved. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, but there is no doubt that this incident could have escalated had police not intervened.

Violent behaviour such as this will absolutely not be tolerated in our community. Officers remain in the area today and tomorrow speaking to residents and conducting enquiries. A number of people have already been arrested in connection with this incident and we are working to identify others who may have been involved.
