Wycombe Wanderers welcomed Stevenage to Adams Park on Saturday 17th September 2016.

After a run of defeats Wycombe were looking for some desperately needed points to take them clear of the relegation zone.

Stevenage made the better start to the game with several shots on goal in the first few minutes of the game, Tom Pett came close to scoring for the visitors in the tenth and fifteenth minutes while a shot from Tyler Walker in the seventeenth minute was just a bit too high and went over the Wycombe goal.

Wycombe kept their nerve and in the third minute of stoppage time of the first half made the breakthrough they had been looking for when a right footed shot from Dayle Southwell found the bottom right corner of the Stevenage goal, the shot was assisted by Sam Wood.

The Chairboys went in at half time a goal up, in the second half both sides had chances but the score stayed the same.

This was the first League game that Wycombe had won since Saturday 13th August 2016.

The match stats show that Wycombe managed 55% possession while six of their ten shots on goal were on target while only two of Stevenage’s six shots on goal were on target. Eighteen fouls marred the match, seven from Wycombe players and eleven from Stevenage.

Wycombe rise to nineteenth position in League Two with eight points from eight games.

The attendance at Adams Park was 3,181 (292 from Stevenage).
